2014 – Postcolonial Europe?

PoCoEuropeROUNDTABLE: 9 June 2014, 4:00-6.30pm
New Academic Building 326, Goldsmiths

Postcolonial theory has had considerable impact in the US and Britain, and is now beginning to do so in Europe. Postcolonial scholars from Sweden, France and Germany join this Roundtable to ‘map’ the state of postcolonial studies in Europe; to inquire into whether there is a meaningful sense in which Europe is a postcolonial entity, and if so, how this might be theorised; to ask whether the different colonial histories of different European countries make a difference to the sort of countries that have become, and to the sorts of theory that will be relevant; and to discuss the barriers to a Europe wide conversation on these and related issues, and how might they be overcome.

The Roundtable format is designed to allow those attending to join the debate.
Chair: Francisco Carballo (Centre for Postcolonial Studies, Goldsmiths)
